What's the opposite of a snowbird?

This year was our year to be with my family at Christmas. We have tried to spend Christmas with my famy every other year since we've been married, but missed one turn when I was super pregnant with Addy. Alex always questions why we would leave sunny Florida to go someplace cold. If it weren't for the fun we have with my parents, siblings and their families, I am not sure we ever would!

This year I took a whole week off, and we decided to drive up rather than pay an arm and leg for plane tickets and hotel. On the way up, we stopped in Valdosta, Georgia to visit with Alex's sister, Beth and her kids. Those Galbraiths are a fun bunch.

The next day we drove all the way to Lousiville, Kentucky and stopped to see my good friend, Kristen and her husband and cute boys. I've known Kristen since we were forced to live together freshman year of college. She is a super great friend. She took took the only picture of us that night, and I forgot to get a copy.

The next day we surprised Mom and Dad by showing up at their sacrament meeting, which I am so glad we did because heir choir (Dad included) put on a beautiful program. My favorite part was singing the last verse if O Holy Night with the choir. I am not often moved by music, but that is my favorite Christmas song, and my favorite verse of that song. The moment gave me chills.

The kids spent a lot of time with their cousins and grandparents. Miles was a bit overwhelmed at times with the number of people, and said more than once, "I want go home." Miles doesn't sleep well in places other than his bed, so I think sleep deprivation was the real culprit of his attitude.

It was pretty cold as expected. One morning it snowed enough for us to make a few snowballs.

And yes, the kids were wearing socks on their hands. We were not fully prepared for the cold.

Christmas Eve we spent the night at Mom and Dads so the kids could wake up to gifts under the tree. The kids enjoyed opening presents. Miles really only need one to open. Addy could have opened gifts all day.

We had a wonderful visit. We are so grateful for the birth of our Savior, and the great plan of Salvation that provides a way for us to be an eternal family.
