No more excuses

I have been kicking myself, almost daily, for months now because I have been terrible about documenting our lives for the last year and a half. I have been excusing my laziness for being so busy at work, housework, and just spending time with the kids and Alex, but when then I spend 20 minutes on Pinterest or texting, and my excuses are no longer valid! So much is happening: Addy potty trained; Miles is just about to turn 2; I have changed jobs--twice; we bought a house! Time to start keeping up, and now that I have discovered the Blogger App for my phone, I WILL be better about documenting the little things that give my life so much meaning.

I will likely never catch up one the last year and a half, but will probably throw In a post here and there with some pictures from that time period that I want to have documented.

So to start, here are a few recent pictures of the kids:

Good for a Laugh

Addy is always good for a laugh. Here are two examples:

Two nights ago, as we were preparing for bed, I told Addy to kiss her Papa and Baby goodnight. She kisses Alex, then she kisses Miles. Then she turns to her Disney Mattel Pop Up Pals toy, pops open Mickey, and she kisses Mickey. Puts Mickey down. Pops open the next one. She kisses Pluto goodnight and puts him down. She proceeded to kiss each one of the characters good night in succession. She has a lot of love for her toys.

The next day, Alex put Addy down for a nap, and when he could still hear her playing and talking a little later, he went in to check on her. She was sitting in her crib, Bubby in her arms. Her blankets were in bed right next to her, but she was completely naked. She looked up at him and said "Cold!" She had disrobed, and threw her clothes out of the crib on to the floor, but didn't think to cover up with her blankets!

Addy turns 2!

My baby girl turned 2 this month! We had a fun weekend celebrating with family (another birthday for Cousin Jo-Jo and a baptism for Jo-Jo's main squeeze, Michelle), and Addy was very spoiled. She is such a funny little thing, but finds ways (as any toddler does) to try our patience on a daily basis. Some things you should know about Addy at 2:

She loves Miles. We are so thankful for this. The transition to two kids has not been terribly difficult because we have not had to deal with jealousy or worries that Addy might hurt Miles. She comforts him when he cries, brings him toys when he doesn't have any, smothers him with kisses and hugs when she gets the notion (which is often) and lets him "get her" and screams with delight when he does.

She loves anything sweet. All sweet things are "cookies" and she always wants cookies. She is not a great eater, sticks mostly with chicken nuggets, french fries and fruit. The only veggie she eats these days are green beans.

She loves: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Fresh Beat Band. She just recently started to say Mickey and as a result, can ask to watch MMC. She loves to "Go bananas" with the Fresh Beats, and we bond with our dance breaks during the show. I am considering taking her to see Fresh Beats in April when they come to St. Pete on tour. For some reason, she also likes Victorious. At least its not a cartoon.

She also loves "Buzzy," or Toy Story. We have a TV/DVD player in our room and Toy Story 2 is always in it. She watches that in the mornings while I get ready for work. Toy Story 3 is saved on the iPad, so she watches that alot too. The iPad also holds Despicable Me and Cars, and she recently has started asking for "Carsy."

She enjoys coloring with pens (including on herself), playing with Play-doh, doing puzzles, making messes, and baths.

She hates: most veggies; when you take away the iPad, her Bubby, or her pacifier; Talking on the phone when someone else is actually on the line; staying in the cart at the store; sitting in the pew during sacrament meeting; sweaters or shirts or jackets that don't button all the way down; having barrettes in her hair.

When she throws a fit, she throws herself on the ground face down, and spreads her arms out to the sides and cries. It's pretty funny.

She has started to say many more things and to copy what we say. Her first full sentence: "I see you!" learned from playing peek-a-boo. Other full sentences she says: "Where's the Bubby?" (her bunny) or "Where's the _________?" Last week she learned "Close the door" when I had to yell it repeatedly at Alex. Other words she says:

  • Puzzils=Puzzle, the whole thing or the pieces

  • Nose, hands, toes, eyes, "beep beep" = belly button, "armie"=arm(s)

  • Mokey=drink/sippy cup

  • Car, keys

  • Play

  • Baby, Pass=pacifier

  • Brush teeth (she loves to brush her teeth, pretty much because she loves the taste of toothpaste)

  • Apple, egg

  • Shoes, Boots

  • Papa. She FINALLY started calling Alex Papa in November 2011. She didn't call him anything or called him Alex or Mama before that.

  • Toys

  • Bird

  • Animal sounds: Moo, Baa, Rawr (lion), ack ("duck" or "quack"). For a puppy, she pants.

  • All dogs are "Max" because of Shannon's dog. For example, she hears the neighbors dog barking, she says, "a Max!"

  • Pants

  • "Hi-ya" as in kung-fu fighting; she learned this from cousins in Ohio at Christmas

  • "Peebee"=someone farted or pooped in their diaper and needs a change. Also what she calls Miles's boys part.

  • Throw it: what she says before she throws anything

  • Nite-nite

  • Amey=Amen

Funny story: Alex, in effort to get her to eat more, started doing "Baby bird" where he would hold up a piece of food, Addy would open her mouth wide and he would give it to her that way. She, in return, started to "bird" us. One day while I was at work, apparently she came over to Alex, who was laying on the couch at the time, and said "Bird," so of course he opened up his mouth, and next thing he knew, she leaned over, and spit a chewed up Cheez-It in his mouth.

Two nights ago, we had the first (and hopefully only) incident involving #2 in the bathtub. I had just gotten Miles out, and I turned back to Addy, and saw what she had just done. As I started to show my annoyance, she saw what was in the tub, started squealing and crying hysterically. She jumped up and was trying to get out of the tub. Her reaction was so funny, I could not be upset about what I had to clean up.

She loves to cuddle with me when we are watching TV. This is the only time she shows a bit of jealousy toward Miles because she wants me to have my arm around her and not on Miles.

I've said it before, but she is just such an awesome little girl, and we love to talk about all the little cute and hilarious things she does. I've written so much because I've been neglectful in keeping record of her first two years. I want to remember all the wonderful little things about her because she is growing up way too fast. I can't believe its been two years since she was born; I remember the day so well and she is still my little baby.

Five months!

Our little man is now five months old. He is still quite the joy, though he doesn't quite sleep through the night. He celebrated four months by rolling over, and now he is doing complete turns on his belly.

Miles loves to babble and is a hilarious giggler. The giggling has been fun for Alex and I, because Addy never was much of a laugher until she became a toddler. He is also far more ticklish than Addy ever was as a baby.

Miles tried out a jumperoo for the first time over Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa Wilson's, so when we got home we pulled ours out. Miles goes to town bouncing around and swaying back and forth.

He is still nursing, so we've made it longer than Addy did. No teeth though, and Addy had two by now. He tried rice cereal for the first time this last week, and was not terribly impressed.

He loves a bath, and loves to suck on his toes.

He loves Addy, and smiles every time he sees her.

He still falls asleep in his swing and carseat, but doesn't care for being cradled in our arms to go to sleep.

He HATES a pacifier, but loves his bottles. When its time to eat, he grabs his bottle as if he's not been fed for days.

His nicknames so far are Smiles, Schmiles, Big Boy and Buddy. I started to call him Bubba, but Alex disapproved.

His eyes are still light blue, and I am crossing my fingers that they remain that way. His hair is a strawberry blonde color, though some days it seems more red.

I love his little face when he cries, and he does some pretty hilarious things with his lips when he is upset.

He is a special little guy, and we are so happy he is ours.

Miles

I realized that I have posted nothing on this blog about the fact that I was pregnant, and we now have a beautiful one month old baby boy. Here is Miles Wilson Berger, born August 18, 2011 at 8:41 am. He weighed 7lbs 3oz and was 19 3/4in long. We are still trying to decide who he looks like, but regardless, he is a welcome addition to our family.

I really should give you the whole story. I changed jobs in mid-December 2010, and found out I was pregnant after my first week at my new job. I took a pregnancy test without Alex knowing, and confirmed with an OB appointment two days before Christmas. Alex had gone over to his parents early with Addy for Christmas, so I was able to do even that without him knowing. I wanted to make the announcement a surprise, so I decided to announce at Addy's first birthday party, which was planned for the weekend after her birthday in January. I, of course, had to tell someone though, and told my sister Melissa, because she was also pregnant! My parents flew in and Alex's parents and sister and her family came over and we had Addy's birthday party at Aunt Shannon's house. Addy opened a few gifts, and I saved one for last, and asked that Alex help her open it because was sort of for him, too. The gift was a shirt that says I'm Going to Be a Big Sister. Alex was pretty surprised, as was everyone else.

I actually continued to keep the pregnancy a secret from coworkers and acquaintances, because I did not want to tell my bosses at work until after I had a 90 day review (in every effort to ensure that I received a raise!). That is the reason I did not post anything on this blog or elsewhere regarding the pregnancy. Here is our little family at Easter, with Addy resting on my baby bump.

My pregnancy with Miles was really easy. I had no sickness at all, as I did with Addy for the few 4 or 5 months. At 20 weeks we found out his gender, and the ultrasound showed cysts on his little brain. My OB ordered a more in depth ultrasound to be taken at the hospital. She said she was not really concerned about them, but I, of course, freaked out for the next week. The ultrasound tech at the hospital did a great job of calming my nerves and anxiety by telling me that the cysts never present a problem with brain development, but may be a marker for other problems. Since there were no other irregularities with the original ultrasound, it was unlikely that any problems would present themselves. Then she immediately confirmed that the cysts were already gone, and that Miles was perfect.

Miles was quite the mover in my belly. He often was most active during the day while I was at work. He often got the hiccups, but never kept me from sleeping!

At about 36 weeks, I started having random spotting, and informed my OB about that. So I got to have another ultrasound, and got to see Miles in 3D! Nothing was wrong, so the spotting was unexplainable, except that perhaps I was just progressing to labor. At that point, Miles was only weighing about 5lbs 13oz. Needless to say, that was much less than Addy was thought to have weighed at the same time, but we were glad he was healthy.

This is me the day before our scheduled C-section. Because Addy was delivered by C-section, and my OB practice did not do Vbacs, I had a repeat C-Section with Miles.

We were scheduled to have Miles delivered at 7:30 am on 8/18. My OB was about 45 minutes late, so he arrived at 8:41am. Lady Gaga was playing on the radio in the operating room when the surgery began. Our sweet anesthesiologist took this picture for us.

Miles later that day.

Addy had stayed with Aunt Shannon that morning after my mom came to the hospital. They came later to introduce Addy to her new baby. She was pretty unphased at first, but warmed up the next day.

We left the hospital a day early, because I was bored with sitting around, and it was hard for Addy. Here is Miles on the trip home.

My sweet mother flew in a couple days before Miles arrived to help us out. She was such an angel, and took great care of us. She stayed for three weeks, and we miss her terribly.

Dad and my brother, Justin, came down Labor Day weekend for Miles' blessing. All my pictures of the kids with Uncle J are on his camera or my mom's camera (J, send me the pictures!), but here is one of my Dad with the kids.

Miles was blessed by Alex and some other important men in our family (Grandpas Wilson and Berger, Uncle Travis, Uncle Phillip, Uncle J, and Cousin Joe) on Sunday, September 4, 2011. We were really grateful to Alex's family and our close friends for making the drive over for that morning.

We were sort of concerned how Addy would take to having a baby around, since she was pretty spoiled by us and our undivided attention to her. She has adjusted really well. As I said, the first day she met Miles, she was not really that intersted, but when she came to the hospital the next day, she sat with me on the bed and held Miles. When I thought she was done, I had Alex pick up the baby. When he did, she reached her hands up to him and Miles and said "More. More" until we gave him back to her! She loves giving him kisses, and snuggling up to him. She likes when Alex pretends to let her carry him. She doesn't know his name, and just says "Who's-at? (Who is that?)" whenever she sees him. If she doesn't call him Who's-at? she calls him "baby." She likes to touch his face, and point out his nose. Hopefully, this will last!

Happy Half Birthday, Addy!

Today is Addy's half birthday! She is 18 months old and could not be more of a joy to our lives. We celebrated by sending her to nursery at church, (yea! although we've snuck her last Sunday, and Sundays when I was single parenting), talking to Grandma Wilson on Skype, and having Aunt Shannon, Uncle Gene, and Joe over for dinner. Can't believe how fast this last year and a half has flown by, or that before her next birthday, she'll have a baby brother!

I tried to get a good picture of her for today, but couldn't get her to hold still, so you get a 4th of July picture and one from today of her on the run crying.

Updating

I have neglected to post for quite some time, so here are some updates.
Addy is growing like a weed. She got her molars in April and May, and in June we have welcomed three of her canine teeth. I think the fourth might be poking through. She's added a few words to her vocab: Alex (much to Papa's chagrin), Peachy (Aunt Shannon's dog), and "ack" (which either means duck or quack). She has started running, but her running is actually slower than walking. She has become somewhat of a Mama's girl, which I don't mind too much. She likes playing in the rain, but not when there is lightening or thunder. She loves playing in the water, but cannot be trusted in a pool without at least two adults around to keep her above water.
Here she is playing in the front yard with a sprinkler we found recently.

One day I found her in the closet talking to her teddy bear. She realized this was fun and it became sort of a game of hide and seek between us.
She really enjoys putting on my shoes. We were really impressed when she put on both of these heels and walked around the house.
We have discovered that Toy Story 3 is magic. Puts her in a trance.
Addy likes to help out when she sees someone sweeping. She actually has become quite a little helper at a few things. At the grocery store, she loves to help load and unload the cart. Doesn't always fair well for produce that gets thrown, but I enjoy watching her.
